Frank McCourt is co-owner of LA Dodgers team and Dodger stadium located in Chavez Ravine. Frank McCourt expressed an interest in buying the Dodgers team from Fox Entertainment group that was owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation. McCourt was earlier a real estate developed in Boston before purchasing Dodgers after which he moved to Los Angeles. McCourt was a roman catholic by birth and he went to Georgetown University to get his economics degree by the year 1975. His wife Jamie McCourt was a fellow student during the freshmen year at the university and they both got married in 1979. The McCourt family has been involved in real estate and construction business for a long time in Boston region.
The McCourt Company was founded by Frank McCourt in 1977, which is a company that specialized in development of commercial real estate projects and parking lots. Frank McCourt purchased Los Angeles Dodgers in the year 2004 from News Corporation, for a price of 430 million dollars which was mostly by debt. He used his parking lot property in south Boston as collateral for purchasing the team and this was later sold for 200 million dollars by News Corp. Frank McCourt does not have any financial partners and he operates the team individually.
Steve Soboroff, the newly hired vice chairman of LA Dodgers, who met with reporters last week, supports Frank McCourt and he wants to give an opportunity to him to show his ability. He also stated that the approval of three billion dollars TV Contract with Fox News will increase the financial stability of the team. Frank McCourt divorce with his wife Jamie McCourt was announced on Oct 14th, 2009 after thirty years of successful marriage. When Dodgers were ruled out from play offs, Jamie was fired from her CEO position and she shortly filed for divorce with Frank McCourt. The settlement talks over Frank McCourt divorce were carried out under Dennis Wasser who works as personal attorney for Jamie, but nothing was revealed about it to public.
